Translation

अनुवाद

English

The wise, engaged in devotional service, take refuge in the Lord, and free themselves from the cycle of birth and death by renouncing the fruits of action in the material world. In this way they can attain that state beyond all miseries.

हिंदी

समबुद्धि से युक्त ज्ञानीजन कर्मों से उत्पन्न होने वाले फल को त्यागकर जन्मरूप बन्धन से मुक्त हो विकाररहित परम पद को प्राप्त होते हैं।

Deep Reflection

गहन चिंतन

The Ticket Out of the Hospital.

Krishna describes the ultimate destination of the Yogi. He calls it Padam Anamayam. Padam = State/Place. Amaya = Disease. An-Amayam = The Place of No Disease.

The world we live in is a "Hospital" of birth and death. Everyone here is dying of the terminal illness called "Time." Krishna offers a cure. He offers a ticket to a state where anxiety, pain, and death cannot touch you.

Karma-jam Phalam Tyaktva (Giving up the fruit)

This is the price of the ticket. To get to the "Healthy State," you must stop eating the "Poison" (Expectations). When you stop demanding that the world make you happy, you stop being a victim of the world.

Manishinah (The Wise Thinkers)

Krishna calls them "Manishinah"—Those who have mastered their minds. They have calculated the cost. "If I chase pleasure, I get pain. If I chase birth, I get death." So they choose to chase Nothing. And in chasing Nothing, they gain Everything.

Janma-Bandha Vinirmuktah (Free from the Bondage of Birth)

We think birth is a beginning. The Sages see it as a "Bandha" (Bondage/Chain). To be confined in a body that gets hungry, tired, sick, and old is a form of prison. The goal is to graduate from this school so you don't have to repeat the grade.

Padam Anamayam (The Sorrow-less State)

This is not a physical place like Hawaii. It is a psychological state. It is the state of Mind where "What happens" essentially doesn't matter. Whether it rains or shines, the inner climate remains 72°F and sunny.

The Exit Strategy

Most people are trying to make the prison cell comfortable (better furniture, better food). The Yogi is planning the escape. The escape route is simple: Do your duty, but don't sign the contract for the results.

What This Means for You

व्यावहारिक ज्ञान

Seek "Anamayam" (Health/Peace). Stop seeking "Excitement." Excitement is a fever. Peace is health.

Normalize "Letting Go". Every results you let go of is one link of the chain broken.

Don't fear the Void. The state of "No Desire" sounds boring to the novice. To the Master, it is the highest freedom.

Live With It

इस श्लोक को जिएं

The Retired Principal (and the Art of Leaving).

You were the Principal of a massive high school for 35 years. You built the new science wing. You planted the trees. You hired every single teacher. The school was your Identity. It was your Kingdom.

Now, you are retired. You walk past the school gate on your evening walk.

You see the new Principal (a young guy, 35 years old). He is painting the iconic red walls a hideous shade of beige. He is letting the students run in the hallways (Rule #1 was always NO RUNNING!). He has dug up your rose garden to build a bicycle shed.

The Test of "Tyaktva" (Abandoning/Giving Up).

Reaction A (The Bound Soul): You feel a physical pain in your chest. Rage. "He is ruining MY legacy!" You write angry letters to the school board. You gossip with old teachers. You complain to your wife every night. You have left the job, but you haven't left the role. You are suffering from "Legacy Fever."

Reaction B (The Manishinah/Wise): You stop at the gate. You see the beige walls. You feel the initial pinch of ego. But you breathe.

You smile. "I did my shift. I carried the torch. Now I have handed it over." "It is not meaningful for me to care about the color of a wall I no longer own."

You turn away. You walk to the park to feed the pigeons. Your step is light. You are free.

To be "Vinirmuktah" (Liberated) means realizing that your "Projects" are just sandcastles. Build them beautifully. But when the tide comes, let them wash away without a tear.

A Question to Sit With

चिंतन के लिए प्रश्न

"Where are you still trying to be the "Principal" of a school you have already left?"
