Men of small knowledge are very much attached to the flowery words of the Vedas, which recommend various fruitive activities for elevation to heavenly planets, resultant good birth, power, and so forth.

हे अर्जुन! जो भोगों में तन्मय हो रहे हैं, वे अविवेकीजन इस प्रकार की पुष्पित (दिखावटी) वाणी कहते हैं...
Deep Reflection
गहन चिंतन
The Trap of "Flowery Words".
Krishna attacks shallow religion. He criticizes those who treat the Vedas not as a guide to Truth, but as a menu for Desires. Pushpitam Vacham = Flowery language. It sounds beautiful. It promises heaven, power, and wealth. But it is a trap.
Krishna is saying: Real spirituality is not about getting what you want; it's about realizing you don't need it.
Avipashcitah (The Unwise)
Krishna calls these religious scholars "Avipashcitah" - lacking deep insight. They know the texts, but they missed the point. They think religion is a transaction: "I give God a coconut; God gives me a Mercedes." This is not devotion; this is business.
Veda-Vada-Ratah (Attached to Rituals)
These people are obsessed with the "Vada" (debates/words) of the Vedas. They argue about correct pronunciation, proper timing of rituals, and exact methodologies. But they have zero interest in the Self. They love the container but have never tasted the contents.
Na Anyad Asti (There is nothing else)
Their arrogance is blinding. They claim: "This ritual is All in All. There is no higher truth than this." They deny the existence of Liberation (Moksha) because they are too in love with Heaven (Svarga). They trade the Infinite for a temporary vacation in paradise.
The Corporate Ladder of Heaven
To them, spirituality is just a career ladder. Earth -> Heaven -> Better Heaven. It's all about "Upward Mobility" within the material world. Krishna says: It's still a cage. A golden cage is still a cage.
True Wealth vs. Fake Wealth
They seek "Bhoga" (Enjoyment) and "Aishvarya" (Opulence). But Krishna offers "Shanti" (Peace) and "Atma-Tripti" (Self-Satisfaction). The flowery words promise things that can be lost. Krishna promises the One Thing that cannot be lost.
What This Means for You
व्यावहारिक ज्ञान
Beware of Transactional Religion. Don't pray just to ask for stuff. Pray to ask for strength, wisdom, and closeness.
Look beyond the "Flowery" promises. Marketing (even spiritual marketing) looks good. Look at the substance. Does it bring peace?
Don't get lost in details. Rituals are pointers. Don't worship the finger pointing at the moon; look at the moon.

The Spiritual Vending Machine.
You scroll through your social media feed. It is a marketplace of "Flowery Words" (Pushpitam Vacham).
STOP at the next "Spiritual" ad you see. Look—really look—at what they are selling.
- "Manifest Your Soulmate in 3 Days!" (Image: A couple laughing on a sunset beach). - "Chant this for Unstoppable Wealth!" (Image: Gold coins falling from the sky). - "Activate Your DNA for Super-Intelligence!" (Image: Glowing chakras and galaxy effects).
It looks spiritual. It smells like sandalwood. It uses Sanskrit words. But strip away the costume. What is it?
It is Greedy Materialism in Yoga Pants.
It is treating the Divine Consciousness as a Vending Machine. You insert the coin (the chant/ritual). You press the button (the desire). You expect the product (Money/Sex/Power) to drop into the tray.
If it doesn't drop, you kick the machine. "This Guru is fake! This Mantra doesn't work!"
The next time you are tempted by a "Flowery Promise," ask yourself: "Am I doing this to GET something, or to BE something?"
True Dharma often looks boring on a billboard. It says: "Discipline your senses. Control your anger. Serve others without reward."
It doesn't sell well. It doesn't get clicks. But it is the only food that will stop your hunger.
Don't buy the candy. Eat your vegetables.
A Question to Sit With
चिंतन के लिए प्रश्न
"Is your spirituality a trade ("I do this, so God gives me that") or a relationship?"
