In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place.

जो भोग और ऐश्वर्य में आसक्त हैं, और उस (पुष्पित वाणी) से जिनका चित्त हर लिया गया है, उनकी बुद्धि समाधि में निश्चयात्मिका नहीं होती।
Deep Reflection
गहन चिंतन
The Stolen Mind.
This verse explains why we fail at meditation. Why can't I focus? Why is my mind jumping? Krishna says: Because your mind has been STOLEN. Apahrta-Cetasam = Kidnapped Consciousness.
Who kidnapped it? Bhoga (Pleasure) and Aishvarya (Power/Control). If you are addicted to dopamine, you cannot have Samadhi (Stillness).
Bhoga-Aishvarya Prasaktanam
This is the addiction. "Prasaktanam" = Deeply attached/entangled. It's not just enjoying a coffee; it's NEEDING the coffee to function. It's not just having money; it's deriving your self-worth from it. When you are hooked on variable rewards, your mind is constantly vibrating with craving.
Apahrta-Cetasam (Kidnapped Mind)
Imagine trying to work while someone is constantly pulling your sleeve. That is Desire. It hijacks your "Chetas" (Awareness). You sit to meditate, and Desire pulls you: "Check your phone." "What's for dinner?" "Did I get a like?" Your mind is not yours anymore. It belongs to the Objects.
Samadhau Na Vidhiyate
Therefore, Samadhi (Total Absorption) does not happen. Samadhi requires a gathering of all mental energies into one beam. If your energy is "Kidnapped" by 10 different desires, there is nothing left to focus. The result is a scattered, weak, ineffective mind.
The Economics of Attention
Your Attention is a currency. If you spend it all on cheap entertainment (Bhoga) and status anxiety (Aishvarya), you are bankrupt. You have no "Attention Capital" left to invest in the Self. To meditate, you must first save up some attention.
The Hard Truth
Krishna doesn't mince words. He says: It is impossible. You cannot have high spiritual realization AND high material obsession simultaneously. You can have possessions, but you cannot be POSSESSED by them. If you are possessed, the door to Samadhi is locked.
What This Means for You
व्यावहारिक ज्ञान
Reclaim your Hijacked Mind. Notice what steals your attention. News? Food? Approval? Name the kidnapper.
Detox. Periodic fasting from "Bhoga" (pleasure) returns your mind to you. Try a dopamine detox.
Don't blame your "bad focus." Blame your attachments. If you reduce the attachment, the focus returns naturally.

The Hijacked Pilot.
Visualize your mind as the Cockpit of a 747. You are the Pilot. Your destination is "Samadhi" (Focus/Deep Work/Peace).
You sit in the chair. You check the instruments. "Okay, flight time is 2 hours. I will execute this task." You put your hands on the yoke.
Ding.
A light flashes on the console. A notification. "Someone commented on your photo."
Suddenly, the cockpit door is kicked open. A team of terrorists storms in. They are not wearing masks; they are wearing dopamine.
One terrorist is named "Validation." He grabs the controls. One is named "Lust." He starts punching coordinates for a porn site. One is named "FOMO." He is screaming about what your friends are doing without you.
You, the Pilot, are pushed out of the chair. You are tied up in the back of the plane.
You watch helplessly as the plane banks sharply away from your destination. Instead of flying to "Work," you fly to "TikTok Scroll Hole" for 45 minutes. Instead of flying to "Peace," you fly to "Anxiety Island."
When you finally snap out of it (land the plane), you feel sick. Groggy. Ashamed. "How did I lose 2 hours? I was just going to check one thing."
You didn't lose time. You lost command.
To regain the cockpit, you need to arm yourself. Lock the door (Turn off the phone). Shoot the terrorists on sight (Block the distraction immediately). Fly the damn plane.
