The senses are so strong and impetuous, O Arjuna, that they forcibly carry away the mind even of a man of discrimination who is endeavoring to control them.
हिंदी
हे अर्जुन! आसक्ति का नाश न होने के कारण ये प्रमथनशील इन्द्रियां यत्न करते हुए बुद्धिमान पुरुष के मन को भी बलात् हर लेती हैं।

The Warning Label.
Krishna issues a Red Alert. "Don't get cocky." He says: Even the Vipashcitah (The Wise/Learned one), who is Yatatah (Striving/Trying hard), can get hijacked. The Senses are Pramathini (Turbulent/Violent churners). They can steal the mind Prasabham (By force/Violently).
This explains why Gurus fall. Why politicians fall. Why disciplined athletes cheat. The enemy is strong. Respect it.
Pramathini (The Churners)
The senses are not passive windows. They are active churners. They agitate the mind. A single glance at a beautiful object can churn the mind into a storm of lust. A single insult to the ear can churn the mind into a tsunami of anger.
Even the Wise Fall
Krishna highlights "Vipashcitah" (The Wise). Why? To destroy spiritual pride. "I have read the Gita 10 times. I am safe." Krishna says: No. You are not. Knowledge is in the Intellect. Lust is in the Biology. Biology eats Intellect for breakfast if you are not careful.
Prasabham (By Force)
This word implies a violent kidnapping. You don't "choose" to sin. You are dragged into it. "I don't simply want the cake; I feel compelled to eat it." This is the power of the Dopamine machinery in the brain. It bypasses executive control.
The Need for Strategy
Since you cannot fight the Senses with brute force forever (they are stronger), you need a superior strategy. That strategy is laid out in the next Verse (61): Mat-parah (Focus on the Divine). You can't fight Darkness with a stick. You need Light.
Eternal Vigilance
Freedom is not a one-time achievement. It is a daily defense. The moment you lower your shield ("I'm a master now"), the arrow hits. Humility is the best armor.
What This Means for You
व्यावहारिक ज्ञान
Never say "I would never." When you see a scandal, don't judge. Say "There but for the grace of God go I." You have the same hardware.
Know your Triggers. If you are weak to sugar, don't keep cookies in the house. Don't test your willpower against a tiger. Stay out of the cage.
Respect the Biology. You are fighting millions of years of evolution designed to seek pleasure. Be smart, not just stubborn.

The Wrestler's Cheat Day (The Hijack).
You are an Olympic wrestler. You are the definition of "Vipashcitah" (Learned/Wise). You know exactly how many calories are in an almond. You have "Yatatah" (Endeavored) for 4 years for this moment.
It is 11 PM on a Tuesday. You are tired. Your willpower battery is low. You walk past a Pizza place.
The smell hits you. Hot cheese. Yeast. Tomato.
In 0.5 seconds, the "Pramathini" (Turbulent Senses) activate. The signal bypasses your Prefrontal Cortex (Logic) and hits the Lizard Brain.
The Hijack: Logic says: "Don't do it. You have weigh-ins tomorrow." Senses say: "EAT IT NOW."
The Senses win by brute force ("Prasabham"). You walk in like a zombie. You order a large pepperoni. You eat the whole thing in a trance.
Only after the last bite do you "wake up." The shame washes over you. "I am an Olympian. How did I lose to a piece of bread?"
Krishna says: Don't rely on being "Smart." The Pizza place doesn't care about your IQ. If you are tired, don't walk past the temptation. Change your route. Don't fight the tiger in the cage. Stay out of the cage.
