Translation

अनुवाद

English

What is night for all beings is the time of awakening for the self-controlled; and the time of awakening for all beings is night for the introspective sage.

Deep Reflection

गहन चिंतन

The Inverted Reality.

This is one of the most poetic and mystical verses in the Gita. Krishna draws a line in the sand. He says: "The Sage and the Society live in two different time zones."

World's Day = Sage's Night. World's Night = Sage's Day.

It highlights the fundamental disconnect between a spiritual seeker and the material crowd. You aren't just "improving" your life; you are completely inverting your reality.

Ya Nisha (What is Night)

For the crowd, Self-Realization is "Night." It is dark, unknown, confusing, and boring. They are asleep to the Spirit.

For the Sage (Samyami), this is "Day." He is fully awake to the Self. He sees it clearly.

Yasyam Jagrati (Where they are Awake)

The crowd is wide awake for Money, Sex, Power, and Fame. They hustle 24/7 for these things. It is bright daylight for them.

For the Sage (Muni), this hustle is "Night." He sees it as a dark dream. A pointless chase of shadows. He sleeps through their party.

The Mutual Confusion

The World looks at the Sage and thinks: "What a loser. He has nothing. He is missing out." The Sage looks at the World and thinks: "Poor souls. They are running after mirages. They are sleepwalking."

Both think the other is asleep.

Paśyato Muneḥ (The Seeing Sage)

It says "Pashyato" (One who SEES). The Sage isn't judging them arrogantly. He just sees the reality. He sees that the Money they are chasing will burn. He sees that the Pleasure they want is a trap. So he turns off the light and goes to sleep regarding those things.

The Loneliness of the Path

This verse explains the loneliness of the seeker. When you start waking up, you lose interest in what your friends are obsessed with. You become a "foreigner" in your own land. Krishna says: This is normal. Stick to your Time Zone.

What This Means for You

व्यावहारिक ज्ञान

Accept the disconnect. If you feel like you don't fit in at parties anymore, don't worry. You are just waking up to a different Day.

Don't crave their "Day". Don't envy the materialistic hustle. To you, that is Night. Why envy someone running in the dark?

Stay Awake. When the world is distracted (Super Bowl, Election drama, celebrity gossip), keep your lamp lit. Focus on what is Real.

The Honest Constable (Night vs Day).

The World's Day (Their Reality): You are Traffic Constable Ramesh. You stand at a busy junction in Bangalore, swallowing dust and exhaust fumes for 8 hours. Your colleagues stand 50 meters away, stopping luxury cars. "Show me your license... or give me 500." They act like kings. They collect ₹5,000 a day in "black" money. They mock you during the tea break: "Ramesh! Why are you sleeping? Wake up! Why are you wasting your posting? Everyone does it!" To them, YOU are the one who is asleep. You are missing out on the "real" fun.

The Constable's Day (Your Reality): But you see what they don't see. You see the fear in their eyes when an Anti-Corruption van passes by. You see the rot in their souls. You see them drinking cheap whiskey at night to silence their guilty conscience. To you, their "Success" is a Nightmare. Their "Free Money" is snake venom.

The Switch (Verse 69 - The Time Zone): You pedal your bicycle home. Your legs hurt. You eat simple Dal-Roti in your small rented house. But when you put your head on the pillow—you are out in 30 seconds. You sleep the sleep of kings. Your colleagues pop sleeping pills and sweat about raids.

"Ya Nisha Sarva Bhutanam": What looks like "Fun" (Bribes/Greed) to them looks like "Poison" (Adharma) to you. What looks like "Suffering" (Poverty/Hardship) to them looks like "Peace" (Dharma) to you. You are living in a different Time Zone. Let them sleepwalk in their nightmare of greed. You stay Awake in your Peace.

"What does society value that you find meaningless? What do you value that society ignores?"
